In May 2025, deep in the mountains of Maguan County, Yunnan, something quietly transformative took place. At Tongsi and Mesuo Primary Schools, a story of regeneration, technology, and hope began.
ZKH, in partnership with Wenshan Zinc-Indium Smelting Co., Ltd. under Yunnan Tin Group, and nonprofit organization Zhonggu Charity, launched the very first “ZKH • Green IT Classroom” — an initiative that breathes new life into idle technology and bridges the digital divide for children in rural China.
For many students at Tongsi Primary School, their first encounter with a laptop was nothing short of magical. Inside a freshly built computer classroom, 30 refurbished laptops lit up for the very first time — and so did the children's faces.
With the guidance of ZKH volunteers, the children learned to use a mouse, type their names, and even talk to an AI robot. They laughed, asked curious questions, and watched as their ideas turned into digital drawings of dream classrooms filled with dancing rabbits, teacher, and blooming trees. In that moment, technology was no longer distant or intimidating — it was joyful, personal, and empowering.
Meanwhile, in the third-grade classroom at Mesuo Primary School, a different kind of lesson was unfolding. Volunteers transformed into “safety teachers,” using animated stories and games to help children understand how to protect themselves in daily life.
This immersive experience planted more than just knowledge — it nurtured awareness and confidence, reminding children that safety begins with mindfulness in the everyday.
This journey began far from the mountains — in ZKH’s Shanghai headquarters. In April, a donation handover event filled the office with boxes marked “Charity Donation.” Inside were retired laptops once used by ZKH employees, now ready for a second life.
Volunteers rolled up their sleeves, joined engineers to clean, repair, and test each device, and decorated the packaging with care. Every laptop was reborn not just as a tool — but as a bridge to opportunity.
The “Green IT Classroom” project reflects ZKH’s commitment to ESG: reducing e-waste, repurposing valuable technology, and investing in education where it's needed most.
With support from local partners like Wenshan Zinc-Indium and nonprofit guidance from Zhonggu Charity, this 2,600-kilometer journey became a powerful example of corporate responsibility in motion — where love, purpose, and innovation intersect.
This is just the beginning. Over the next five years, Zhonggu Charity will provide regular software and hardware maintenance, curriculum support, and remote tech classes. ZKH volunteers will continue to share knowledge and inspiration with the children online.
As one ZKH representative put it:
“We hope these computers become seeds — planting curiosity for technology, a passion for learning, and hope for a brighter future.”
ZKH believes that technology becomes meaningful when it’s shared, and corporate responsibility is about showing up. From Shanghai to the rural classrooms of Yunnan, this initiative is not only a step toward ESG excellence — it's a promise that love is always on the way.
